Traffic is the procedure of using the roadway following the rules of the road which is generally applied to all road users. An organized traffic has well-established priorities, right-of-way, and traffic management and control at intersections. Generally, traffic going in opposite directions should be separated to ensure that they do not block each other’s way.
Traffic light is one of the traffic management tools to control and manage the direction and smooth flow of vehicle traffic as well as for other road users. This traffic indicator is often used to make priority clear. Red Traffic Light is internationally known to suggest or direct an absolute stop, while the counterpart of this light is the Green Traffic Light, which directs traffic to move accordingly.
Likewise, crosswalks otherwise known as the pedestrian crossing is designated especially in populated areas. This lane indicates that pedestrians have the absolute priority over the vehicle traffic. The traffic light on this pedestrian-vehicle crossroad signals that vehicles must give priority to pedestrians.
Moreover, vehicles’ traffic on a public road generally has priority over other traffic such as traffic emerging from private access. This has an exception on railroad crossings and drawbridges, which indicate the right of way of the rail users and boats, respectively.
Furthermore, traffic light is always indicated to direct traffic directions in every junction on public roads.
